History
The Bartolommei family moved to Podere Poggi in 1911 and settled at Caprili in 1952 as sharecroppers.
In 1964 the family decided to purchase the property. In 1965 Alberto and Alfo planted Vigna Madre. Caprili joined the Brunello producers’ consortium in the 1970s.
The first branded Rosso was the 1978 vintage, and the first Brunello, also from 1978, was released in 1983. The first Brunello Riserva was produced in 1983.
Terroir
The estate lies in south-western Montalcino on slopes descending toward the Orcia and Ombrone rivers.
Winemaking
The estate grows 23 ha of Sangiovese Grosso, about 1 ha of Vermentino, 0.7 ha of Moscadello and 0.3 ha of Trebbiano and Malvasia.
Red wines ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel and mature in Slavonian oak, barriques or tonneaux according to the wine.
Philosophy
The family continues the vineyard and cellar work begun by Alfo Bartolommei and Vigna Madre.
