About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Arione is a 0.7 ha parcel in Serralunga, around 450 m above sea level, facing from south to southwest. Its alkaline silty-sandy soil is poor in organic matter and contains abundant sand and marine fossils. Planted in 1999 with Nebbiolo clones CN 111 and CVT 230, the vineyard is Guyot-trained.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The 2021 wine fermented for 20 days at controlled temperature, with daily plunging and pump-overs. Post-fermentation maceration on the skins continued for another 60 days.

Ageing

Thirty months in used French oak barrels and foudre.

Technical data

Yield was 45 q/ha and alcohol was 14.5% ABV. Production comprised 3,000 standard bottles, 100 magnums and 24 double magnums.

Tasting profile

Focused and finely drawn, with vibrant raspberry, ripe cherry and darker fruit over a stony mineral background. Earthy notes of gentian and quinine add depth while the palate retains purity and savory character. Racy acidity and taut tannins provide structure, leading to a long, spicy finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 17–18 °C. Pair with wild-boar ragout and cep mushrooms.

Vintage notes

The 2021 tasting note recommends cellaring for roughly 25 years, although the technical field on the same sheet gives an ageing potential of 9–10 years.
