About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Brunate is a 0.52 ha parcel in La Morra, lying at 300–350 m with a south-to-southeast exposure. The alkaline silty-clay soil contains very little organic matter. Planted in 2005 with Nebbiolo clones CVT 71, 423 and CVT CN 142, the vineyard is Guyot-trained.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The 2021 wine fermented for 20 days at controlled temperature, with daily plunging and pump-overs. It then remained on the skins for a further 60 days of post-fermentation maceration.

Ageing

Thirty months in used French oak barrels and foudre.

Technical data

Yield was 40 q/ha and alcohol was 14.5% ABV. Production comprised 3,172 standard bottles and 50 magnums.

Tasting profile

Lifted floral and resinous aromas are accented by fresh blue-toned fruit. The palate is juicy from the opening through the middle, with lively acidity, vibrant tension and firm tannins. Its polished, satiny texture gains grip on the finish, joined by savory and saline impressions. The overall profile emphasizes finesse.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 17–18 °C and pair with hare civet.

Vintage notes

The 2021 tasting note presents a drinking window extending from release to 30 years, while the technical ageing-potential field gives 15–20 years.
