About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Nebbiolo is blended from four vineyards across the Barbaresco region. Bricco di Treiso, San Stunet and Bongiovanni are situated in the village of Treiso, while Rocche Massalupo lies in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, Alba. Combining sites with different positions and exposures brings together the varied expressions of Nebbiolo into a complete, balanced Barbaresco in the Langhe tradition.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, followed by a long maceration on the skins. The lots from the different sites are then carefully blended.

Ageing

The wine matures for nearly 24 months in large barrels made from French and Eastern European oak. A small portion is aged in French oak barriques. Long bottle ageing before release is intended to improve its approachability.

Tasting profile

Concentrated ripe and spicy fruit is supported by round tannins. The wine combines approachability with substantial structure and complexity.

Ageing potential

Extremely long ageing potential.

Label / history

Produced every year in the established style of the Pio family, this is conceived as a multi-terroir Barbaresco rather than a basic expression of the appellation.
