About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The parcel lies at the beginning of the historic Gallina geographical mention in the municipality of Neive. Its calcareous-clay soil contains a substantial proportion of sand, contributing elegance and distinct finesse to the Barbaresco.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand into small crates at physiological maturity, assessed through the ripeness of the seeds. Two manual selections are made before vinification. Fermentation lasts about ten days in wooden vats, initiated with a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts. Traditional submerged-cap maceration continues for approximately 60–70 days.

Ageing

Approximately five years in neutral oak and concrete vats.

Tasting profile

The sandy component of the calcareous-clay soil is reflected in the wine’s pronounced finesse and elegance.

Label / history

Roagna has cultivated Gallina since 2014. The 2014 vintage was the first produced, following a friendship with the owner of historic vineyards in Neive.
