Vineyard and terroir

Relio comes from Ronce, a 0.5-hectare vineyard on the Rive di Guia. Its markedly steep slopes lie at 350 metres above sea level and face north-west. Old vines of mixed ages grow in marl and sandstone soils with a high limestone component. The cool site gives the grapes pronounced acidity and minerality. The vines are trained with the traditional Valdobbiadene pruning system, adapted from the double-arched cane method. Within the denomination, the 43 Rive identify its steepest, best-exposed hillside crus and express distinct soils and growing conditions.

Grapes

Glera.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand into bins between late September and early October. The second fermentation lasts 30 days.

Technical data

Alcohol: 11.5% vol. Total acidity: 5.43 g/L. Residual sugar: 4 g/L.

Tasting profile

Light straw yellow with brilliant highlights. The aroma combines fresh lime and citron with mineral tones and delicate herbal nuances. Dry and taut on the palate, with vibrant acidity and a clean, savoury finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 6–8°C in a glass combining the narrow profile of a flute with the broader aromatic chamber of a tulip. Store in a cool, dark and dry place at 12–15°C, upright during the first year and horizontally thereafter. Prosecco Superiore is at its most expressive 12–24 months after bottling; with time, its youthful fruit-led aromas become more mature and vinous.

Label / history

The wine takes its name from Aurelio Bisol, affectionately known as “Relio”, who devoted his life to these hills and regarded Ronce as one of the territory’s finest vineyards. Its steep rows require manual cultivation and harvesting associated with Valdobbiadene’s heroic viticulture.
