Storia
1851
Castel Sallegg is founded in Caldaro, Alto Adige.
Early ownership
The historic Castel Sallegg estate once belonged to Archduke Rainer of Austria, Viceroy of Veneto and Lombardy, and was later inherited by its current owner, Count Kuenburg.
1892
Enrico Lucchesi Palli, Prince of Campofranco, brought several Moscato Rosa vines to Alto Adige from his estates in Sicily. They were planted on the shores of Lake Caldaro, where they adapted well to the warm microclimate and became one of Castel Sallegg's most precious treasures. These vines are now very rare worldwide.
The cellar
The cellar, set deep beneath the estate, was built more than 1000 years ago and reflects the centuries-old wine culture of Castel Sallegg.
Terroir
The estate stretches for several kilometres, from Caldaro's main square in the province of Bolzano to Lake Caldaro. The warm microclimate here allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly and develop rich aromas. The Moscato Rosa vines, planted on the shores of Lake Caldaro, adapted well to this warm microclimate.
Vinificazione
Castel Sallegg is following a path of sustainable development, working to make better use of the estate's resources and preserve them for future generations through a healthy production system designed to support well-being. This includes introducing more environmentally friendly packaging, eliminating herbicides, adopting environmentally responsible vineyard practices, and providing ongoing education on environmental issues and sustainable technologies.
The cellar, set deep beneath the estate itself, was built more than 1000 years ago and reflects the centuries-old wine culture of Castel Sallegg. Its steady year-round temperature and humidity play an important part in shaping the profile and refined character of the wines as they develop. Grapes from the Moscato Rosa vines are used in the Castel Sallegg cellars to make Castel Sallegg Moscato Rosa, a distinctive rosé dessert wine and one of Count Kuenburg's finest wines.
Filosofia
