Storia
Domenico Clerico began making wine in 1979. He built a small estate in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of Barolo, that came to include four vineyards: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana and Mosconi. Robert Parker described him as one of Piedmont's most gifted winemakers, praising his wines as remarkably rich, aromatic and sensual, with both hedonistic and intellectual appeal.
Terroir
The estate is based in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of Barolo, and includes four vineyards: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana and Mosconi.
Vinificazione
Domenico Clerico holds that the quality of the vines is the only factor that determines a wine's potential. He takes great care in choosing vineyard and farming methods, uses only organic fertilizers, and maintains average yields that are among the lowest in the region.
In the winery, Clerico moves away from traditional methods and continually experiments with maceration times and aging conditions. The estate produces a fairly broad range of wines, which regularly receive scores of more than 90 points from international publications and wine critics.
Filosofia
Domenico Clerico's winemaking philosophy is rooted in the firm belief that the quality of the vines is the only factor that determines a wine's potential. This belief drives his careful choice of vineyard and farming methods, his exclusive use of organic fertilizers, and his pursuit of yields among the lowest in the region.
