Storia
Origins
The first evidence of the Grosjean family in the Aosta Valley dates back to the early seventeenth century. After the terrible loss of life caused by the plague of 1630, the Duke of Savoy invited families from Savoy and Burgundy to help repopulate the valley. The family worked tirelessly for many decades, expanding their property by buying land for growing grapes. They later began making wine not only for themselves, but also to sell.
Decline and Revival
After centuries of family winemaking tradition, the Grosjean family fell on hard times at the end of the 19th century. It was only after the Second World War that Grandfather Dauphin, the son of an orphan, began working land owned by his wife, Micheline Cachoz, near the Creton farmhouse in Quart. In 1968, he bottled his cherry wine to present it at the Aosta Valley wine fair. Its success at the fair encouraged his entrepreneurial spirit and convinced him that it might be possible to make a living from growing grapes.
Modern Era
The new Grosjean cellar was built in 2000. Organic methods were introduced in the vineyards in 2011, and modernization work in 2015 expanded the existing cellar. Since 2018, the company has been run by the third generation of the Grosjean family: Hervé, Didier, Simon and Marco.
