Storia
14th century\nWine was already being made at Fattoria Montecchio, when the estate was the country villa of the Florentine Torrigiani family. Its wines became known far beyond Florence, and the family opened an important trading branch in Nuremberg, a crossroads for commerce with Russia's wealthy market.\n\n### 1973\nFattoria Montecchio became part of the Nuti family's story. Ivo Nuti, who came from Cerreto Guidi, just a short distance from Leonardo da Vinci's birthplace, had become one of the leading entrepreneurs in Santa Croce sull'Arno. He decided to buy the estate from the Marquises Torrigiani and restore it to its former glory, in the heart of Chianti Classico and Tuscany, a region to which he felt instinctively connected.\n\nWith the help of his wife Maria and their three sons, Andrea, Fabrizio and Riccardo, Ivo restored the property and brought new life to the vineyards at the heart of the estate. Guided by detailed agronomic and geological studies, the family renewed the old vineyards and planted new ones. Ivo also built a new cellar, equipped with a higher-capacity winemaking line and the best available technology.\n\n### Today\nFattoria Montecchio is more than a winery. It is a small world made up of many different activities. Work has resumed in the kiln workshop, where craftspeople now create one-of-a-kind pieces. An oil mill has also been established, reflecting the traditions, food and cooking of Tuscany and the Mediterranean. The latest addition was the opening of the farmhouse in 2004. The Nuti family welcomes anyone who loves the Chianti area, peace, nature and the rhythms of country life. Guests can discover Fattoria Montecchio's wines in tasting rooms surrounded by greenery.
