Storia
Wines from Mombaruzzo were praised in chronicles as far back as 1014.
1983: foundation
Neirano was founded in 1983 in Mombaruzzo, surrounded by vineyards planted with Brachetto, Barbera, Cabernet and Chardonnay. The winery is based in Casalotto di Mombaruzzo, in an 18th-century villa that was extensively restructured and renovated to become a production facility.
Today
Paolo and Antonio, the fourth generation of the Sperone winemaking family, run the winery and produce sparkling wines. Their children, Francesca and Andrea, also work for the company.
Terroir
The winery is at Casalotto di Mombaruzzo, in Mombaruzzo. Pinot Grigio is described as coming from the hills of Lombardy.
Vinificazione
Traditional winemaking is combined with modern technology. The winery occupies a restored 18th-century villa. Wines are aged in small 225-litre barrels in underground cellars, where the sparkling wines are also hand-riddled. Bottling is the final stage, on a fully automated line.
The flagship is "Neirano" Brut, a sparkling wine made by the Champagne method. The range is mainly DOC and DOCG. Whites include those from Cortese, sparkling Prosecco, sweet Moscato d'Asti (a dessert wine) and Pinot Grigio. Reds include Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Asti, Montepulciano and others.
Filosofia
The winery combines traditional winemaking with modern technology.
