Terroir
Roveré della Luna lies in the Valle dell’Adige, north of Trento. Its vineyards occupy an alluvial cone, foothills, hillsides and glacial or moraine terraces.
The area combines several documented soil expressions. Pinot Nero is associated with the most calcareous vineyard zone of Roveré della Luna. Pinot Grigio vineyards include fluvio-glacial soils on the alluvial cone. The foothill vineyards used for Lagrein stand on glacial or moraine terraces with brown, moderately deep and well-drained soils over a gravelly, stony matrix.
The local climate is Alpine-continental to subcontinental. Winters are cold and frequently snowy; summers are warm, but nights remain cool, producing a marked day–night temperature range. The hillsides used for Gewürztraminer are well exposed and ventilated.
Winemaking
The cooperative forms part of Cavit’s network of associated winegrower wineries and participates in its system of precision and integrated viticulture. Member vineyards are supported by PICA—the Piattaforma Integrata Cartografica Agriviticola—developed in 2010 with the Fondazione Edmund Mach and Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
PICA combines comprehensive soil mapping with geo-climatic analysis. It is used to match varieties to individual parcels, conduct controls and selections throughout the agronomic cycle, and monitor ripening so that harvest timing can be planned precisely. Vineyard data and predictive models are made available to technicians across the associated cooperative wineries.
The system provides continuous, vineyard-specific guidance for rationalising phytosanitary treatments, managing pathogens, tailoring resources to each site and optimising water use. The wider agricultural programme also promotes green manure, maintenance of dry-stone walls and insect mating disruption to protect soil health, biodiversity and the Trentino landscape.
All Cavit members hold SQNPI certification under Italy’s National Quality System for Integrated Production. The cooperative network also follows the Protocol for Quality Wine Production in Trentino. The member growers’ vineyards average 1.2 ha across the wider network, allowing predominantly hands-on husbandry and manual harvesting with technical support from Cavit.
