History
2005: the purchase
In 2005 the Vigneto San Vito estate, near Bologna, was put up for sale. Federico Orsi, who had worked as a financial consultant since the age of 19, jokingly suggested buying it and making wine. His wife, Carola, supported the idea, as she had no desire to move to the USA. The family agreed to buy the estate on the condition that they would sell it if it failed to generate an income within five years.
Since then
Federico chose biodynamic methods to make natural wines with as little intervention as possible. He now also heads the Consorzio dei Vignaioli Biodinamici (Covibio), a group of winemakers who use biodynamic methods.
