Early twentieth century
Romano Pittaro, an experienced winemaker, planted Merlot vines that had been imported from France in 1880.
1968
His son Angelo built a modern winery. The company was originally called San Martino and was later renamed Pitars, which is how the founders' surname sounds in the local dialect.
Today
The fourth generation of the Pittaro family runs the winery: Nicola, Stefano and Alessandro, together with the rest of the family.
