Sardus Pater

Foundation and start of operations

Sardus Pater was constituted in 1949 as a limited-liability cooperative. It began operating in 1955 on Sant’Antioco island in southwestern Sardinia.

Development of production

Over the ensuing years, the cooperative progressively refined its wine production and concentrated especially on enhancing the expression and standing of Carignano. Its grapes are supplied by 200 members and come predominantly from Carignano vineyards. The oldest of these vineyards are located on Sant’Antioco island.

Le Vigne che Guardano il Mare

Sardus Pater subsequently joined Cantina Santadi and Agricola Punica in the Sulcis partnership behind Le Vigne che Guardano il Mare. The initiative places Carignano DOC at the centre of coordinated educational and promotional work intended to communicate the vineyards, agricultural heritage, wine culture and food traditions of Sulcis Iglesiente while strengthening the territory’s position in regional, national and international markets.

Sardus Pater is located on Sant’Antioco island in southwestern Sardinia and forms part of the Sulcis winegrowing territory. Its 200 members supply grapes predominantly from Carignano vineyards, including the cooperative’s oldest source vineyards on Sant’Antioco island.

Wine production has been progressively refined since operations began in 1955, with particular emphasis placed on enhancing Carignano. No individual cellar processes or maturation protocols are specified.

Sardus Pater’s documented direction centres on enhancing Carignano and contributing to the communication of Sulcis winegrowing identity. Through Le Vigne che Guardano il Mare, it participates in a cooperative programme that connects wine with the agricultural, culinary and cultural heritage of Sulcis Iglesiente and builds collaboration among producers, restaurateurs and tourism professionals.
