Storia
Mid-nineteenth century
The family wine business began with Commendatore Vincenzo de Marco, who started producing wine in San Pietro Vernotico and sold it in bulk to France and Tuscany.
1934
The winery was formed by combining the land of Professor Donato Vallone, given as a dowry to his daughter Donna Maria, with Vincenzo de Marco's property. A 1934 marriage agreement records the union of two estates: Tenuta Flaminio in Brindisi and Tenuta Iore in San Pancrazio Salentino. The couple's children, Franco, Vittoria, Maria Teresa and Bepi, became directly involved in developing the company.
1970s
Franco Vallone rebuilt and modernized the winery. Under him, a shipment of 1973-vintage Brindisi DOC wines was exported to the United States for the first time, which brought a major change to the company's wine business strategy.
1979 onwards
Franco died young in 1979, and his sisters Vittoria and Maria Teresa took over the company. In 2014 they were joined by Franco's son Francesco Vallone, the fourth generation. Vallone now owns 500 ha divided among 3 production areas in the municipalities of San Pancrazio Salentino, San Pietro Vernotico and Carovigno.
Filosofia
Vallone describes its work as combining craftsmanship, expertise and ongoing research with respect for traditional values and an innovative approach, guided by care for the land, the vines and the environment. The family's stated main aim is to make wines that meet the expectations of those who choose them, clearly express the character of their terroir and have a clean, elegant style that is never excessive. The winery also states a continuing commitment to maintaining and strengthening the trust of its customers.
