Storia

Roman-era origins

Villa Vallombrosa traces its winegrowing history to Roman times. Archaeological remains found on the estate include artefacts struck in Rome between AD 161 and 180. Vines have been present here since the Roman Empire, giving the estate a winegrowing history spanning approximately two millennia.

Continuity of the vineyard

Across this long history, the vineyard has retained its connection to a combination of Triassic limestone, Permian red earth and the schist of the Massif des Maures. The contemporary estate continues to base its rosé production on the complementary influence of these geological components and on parcel-by-parcel harvesting.

Present dayThe estate produces rosé from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, harvested at the intended maturity parcel by parcel.

Terroir

Villa Vallombrosa’s vineyards lie in Provence at Pignans, in the setting of the Massif des Maures. Their geological identity combines two complementary terroir components: Triassic limestone mixed with the influence of Permian red earth, together with schist from the Massif des Maures.

The Permian component brings richness and structure to the estate’s rosé wines. The schist contributes minerality, freshness and elegance. Villa Vallombrosa treats this conjunction of geological influences as the basis of the wines’ balance between power, length, finesse, fruit and minerality.

Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault are harvested once they reach the intended maturity. Picking is organized parcel by parcel, allowing the composition of the Vallombrosa Grand Vin blend to be considered from the vineyard stage.

The production approach begins in the vineyard. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault are harvested at the intended maturity, parcel by parcel, to prepare the desired blend for Vallombrosa Grand Vin. The complementary geological influences are associated with richness and structure from the Permian soils and with minerality, freshness and elegance from the schist of the Massif des Maures.

Filosofia

Villa Vallombrosa places authenticity and terroir expression at the centre of its identity. Its approach is built around the conjunction of two complementary geological influences and the continuity of vines on land cultivated since Roman times.

Quality is pursued from harvest onward: maturity is assessed before picking, each parcel is considered separately, and the intended blend begins to take shape in the vineyard. The estate associates its terroir-driven rosé style with power, length and finesse, alongside fruit and mineral expression.
