Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba/Diano d’Alba
Detto anche Diano d’Alba
8 cantine e 3 vini. One commune makes this Dolcetto: Diano d'Alba, a village strung out along a hill of nearly 500 metres just south of Alba, looking over the town on one side and the old road to Liguria on another. Ligurians and then Romans held the spot, and the name may come from Diana, goddess of the hunt, from a time when these hills were thick with forest. Continua a leggere ↓

Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba in breve
Dolcetto is an early, delicate grape that wants the best exposures and big swings between day and night temperatures. In Diano it took the highest, sunniest slopes, pushing the woods down into the valleys and the hazelnuts onto the poorer faces. The soils here are marked by white sandstone, and vineyards may reach 550 metres.
Generations of growers learnt the best sites so well that they could be mapped as early as 1988: 76 sörì — Piedmontese for sunny places, all inside the commune. The wine is 100 per cent Dolcetto; a Superiore ages at least ten months from the first of November of the harvest year. Diano d'Alba became a DOC in 1974 and a DOCG in 2010.
