Storia
1935
Santa Margherita's history begins in 1935. Count Gaetano Marzotto left the Gruppo Vinicolo umbrella and greatly expanded his landholdings in eastern Veneto, in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hills.
1952
Santa Margherita announced the creation of what is now the well-known Prosecco.
Later expansion
Over time the company acquired vineyards in Tuscany and Chianti, as well as the Tenuta Sassoregale estate in Maremma. It also produces Pinot Grigio in Alto Adige and Franciacorta in Lombardy. Today it is one of the leading names in the Italian wine market.
Terroir
The original estate lies in eastern Veneto, in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hills. Further holdings are in Tuscany (including Chianti), Maremma, Alto Adige and Lombardy (Franciacorta).
Vinificazione
The Villanova winery is the heart of the Veneto estate and is described by the company as state-of-the-art. The company produces Prosecco, Pinot Grigio in Alto Adige and Franciacorta in Lombardy.
Filosofia
The company takes particular pride in its Villanova winery.
