Storia

Origins (1349–1500s)

The story of Fattoria di Mocenni di Casini Nicolo, also known as Bindi Sergardi, dates back to 1349. The winery has been shaped by 23 generations of the Bindi Sergardi family — gentlemen, noble and courageous figures, accomplished farmers, captains and bishops who devoted their lives to winemaking in Siena. Originally from Montalcino, the family moved to Siena and joined the Monte, or Popular Order. Many family members played an active part in the political and administrative life of the Sienese state.

Nicolo di Giovanni served in the republic's judiciary in 1463 and became Consul of the Mercanzia in 1496. Achille was appointed Master of Salt Customs in 1519. His son Nicolo was sent on behalf of Siena to Pope Clement VII in 1530, while the Pope was at war with the city. This Nicolo was one of the most determined patriots defending the freedom of Siena's institutions when they were threatened by the army of Charles V between 1552 and 1557.

20th century

Chiara, the daughter of Elisabetta Bindi Sergardi and wife of Alessandro Casini, made a major contribution to the winery's development, continuing its work during the Second World War. She lost her father at the age of 17 and later her husband as well. As a widow, she passed on her resilience and love of farming to her heirs.

Since 2005

Since 2005, Alessandra Casini Bindi Sergardi and her father Nicolo have managed the family estates. Courage, honesty and authenticity guide her approach to producing wines.

Bindi Sergardi owns 3 estates: Tenuta I Colli, Tenuta Mocenni and Tenuta Marcianella. Together, they cover around 1000 hectares in the province of Siena, stretching between the medieval villages of Vagliagli in Chianti Classico, Monteriggioni and Chiusi in Chianti Colli Senesi, and Montepulciano in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano production area.
