1892: the origin of the name
The name Haras de Pirque pays tribute to Chile’s oldest thoroughbred racehorse breeding farm, founded in 1892 close to the present winery. The equestrian heritage remains physically embedded in the estate: the thoroughbred racetrack borders and surrounds the vineyards, while the winery was designed in the form of a horseshoe.
The Antinori project in Chile
Haras de Pirque emerged from the Antinori family’s ambition to produce high-quality organic wines in Chile, explore the country’s winemaking potential and express the terroir of the Maipo Valley. The estate occupies an Andean foothill setting in the easternmost part of the valley. Its production philosophy places the vineyards and surrounding territory at the centre of each wine’s identity.
Terroir
Haras de Pirque lies in central Chile, in the Maipo area and the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. Its principal location is described as the easternmost part of the Maipo Valley, at the foot of the Andes; another estate description places it in the northern part of Maipo Province.
The vineyards occupy a landscape framed by the Maipo Valley on one side and the Andes on the other. The area has climatic and geographical conditions regarded as highly favourable for quality wine production. The vineyards and the surrounding territory are treated as the defining elements of the wines’ character and identity.
Vinificazione
Haras de Pirque is devoted to the production of high-quality organic wines. Its vineyard philosophy is centred on conveying the character of the Maipo Valley and treating the vineyard and its wider territory as the foundation of every wine.
The estate has a modern winery whose architecture reflects Haras de Pirque’s equestrian heritage. The building was designed in the shape of a horseshoe and stands among vineyards bordered by the historic thoroughbred racetrack.
Production is directed toward organic wines that express the Maipo Valley’s terroir and Chile’s winemaking potential. The vineyard and surrounding territory are intended to remain perceptible in the identity and character of every wine.
Filosofia
Haras de Pirque’s guiding ambition is to explore Chile’s winemaking potential through high-quality organic wines while expressing the terroir of the Maipo Valley. The vineyard and its territory are understood as the soul of each wine, with the wines’ distinctive character serving as the expression of the estate’s production philosophy.
