Storia
The beginning in Puglia
The Antinori family began investing in Puglia in 1998. The decision was driven by passion, confidence in the region’s qualitative potential and the conviction that Puglia could produce wines with a strong territorial identity. Tormaresca was conceived around the coexistence of regional winegrowing history and innovation, working with both indigenous and non-indigenous varieties.
Development across Puglia
Tormaresca developed through estates in distinct parts of the region. Its present composition encompasses Masseria Maìme in Salento and Tenuta Carrubo in the Manduria DOC area. Masseria Maìme extends along the Adriatic coast, while Tenuta Carrubo places the project in a territory associated particularly with Primitivo.
Masseria Maìme grew into an agricultural property of approximately 500 hectares, including 350 hectares of vineyards and 85 hectares of olive groves. Cantina Tormaresca forms the productive center of the estate. Its contemporary architecture reinterprets the curved forms of agave leaves and olive trees characteristic of the Salento landscape.
Terroir
Tormaresca operates in two distinct areas of Puglia: Salento and the Manduria DOC zone.
Masseria Maìme lies in Upper Salento and extends along the Adriatic coast. Its vineyards emerge among woodland and pine groves and continue toward the sea, making the coastal setting a defining element of the estate landscape. The property combines vineyards with substantial olive cultivation.
Tenuta Carrubo is situated in the Manduria DOC area, a territory closely associated with Primitivo.
Vinificazione
Cantina Tormaresca is the production center of Masseria Maìme. The winery is an innovative contemporary structure whose flowing architectural lines reinterpret shapes found in the Salento landscape, particularly agave leaves and olive trees.
Filosofia
Tormaresca presents Puglian winegrowing as a meeting of history and innovation. Its guiding idea is that the region can impart character, personality and qualitative potential to both indigenous and non-indigenous varieties.
The Antinori family’s investment was founded on passion, courage and confidence in Puglia’s capacity to produce quality wines with a clearly recognizable territorial identity. The project consequently spans distinct Puglian environments rather than treating the region as a single homogeneous winegrowing area.
