Terroir
Cerreto Guidi and the Chianti hills
Terre Natuzzi is based at Cerreto Guidi, in the heart of Chianti. Its setting is a characteristically Tuscan hill landscape, with long vineyard rows extending across slopes marked by cypress trees. Sangiovese is central to the identity of the area and appears in nearly all of its DOC denominations.
South-west-facing vineyards
The vineyards documented for the Toscana IGT wines face south-west. Some occupy moderately inclined mid-slope positions on mixed clay and limestone soils. Other plots have calcareous soils of marine origin, distinguished by a substantial presence of white seashells; this composition is associated with elegance and complexity in the resulting wines.
Greve in Chianti
The Chianti Classico vineyards are located at Greve in Chianti, in the hilly country of central Tuscany. They occupy steep slopes with sandy soils. Cool nights and a long growing season support the development of fragrance and elegance.
Vinificazione
In the south-west-facing white-wine vineyards, the vines are trained using VSP (vertical shoot positioning) and pruned according to the Guyot system. No broader farming protocol, certification, harvest practice, soil-management programme, disease-control regime, biodiversity initiative or yield limit is specified for Terre Natuzzi.
Production methods differ by wine type. The white Toscana IGT is made after delicate crushing. Its must ferments at a controlled temperature of 12–14°C, a range selected to retain delicate grape aromas and flavours.
The red Toscana IGT is likewise produced after delicate crushing. Its must remains in contact with the skins for 1–2 weeks to extract colour and other polyphenolic compounds.
For Chianti Classico DOCG, delicate crushing is followed by 1–2 weeks of skin maceration for colour and polyphenol extraction. The wine then matures for nine months in a combination of small and large barrels.
Filosofia
Terre Natuzzi’s identity is built around the Tuscan hill landscape and the varieties associated with it. Sangiovese forms the core of the red-wine expression, while site-specific differences—marine-origin calcareous soils rich in seashells, mixed clay and limestone mid-slopes, and the sandy slopes of Greve in Chianti—guide the character of the individual wines. Cellar work uses controlled fermentation, measured skin contact and, for Chianti Classico, barrel maturation to preserve aroma while developing colour, polyphenolic structure and complexity.
