Storia
Foundation and early recognition (1886–1907)\nCampagnola was founded in 1886 by Carlo Campagnola and his wife, Caterina Zardini. In 1907, the winery's recioto won a gold medal at an exhibition in Verona, an event the Campagnola family regards as the start of its winemaking tradition, now more than 100 years old.\n\n### Carrying on the family after Carlo's death\nCarlo Campagnola died at a young age. His widow, Caterina Zardini, carried on his work together with their ten young sons.\n\n### Selling their own wines in Verona (1926)\nIn 1926, several of the brothers, led by Giuseppe Campagnola, bought a small restaurant in the centre of Portoni Borsari, where they successfully sold their own wines.\n\n### Move to the current site (1950s)\nBy the 1950s, the business needed more production space and moved to the site where it remains today. There, Giuseppe Campagnola and his sons Luigi and Giancarlo began making the classic wines of the Verona region.\n\n### Present day\nThe company is now led by Luigi's son, Giuseppe Campagnola Jr., who continues the family business together with his father and his children, the fifth generation of the winemaking family. Campagnola makes wine from its own grapes and also buys fruit from more than 50 growers working around 80 ha of vineyards, and it partners with other wineries to produce wines beyond the Verona region.
Terroir
Campagnola is based in the town of Valgatara, in the Valpolicella Classica area. Its Caterina Zardini range comes from 36 ha of vineyards in the commune of Marano. The winery also has 15 ha of its own vineyards in the Bardolino Classico area, plus a further 15 ha jointly managed there with Tenute Francesco Righetti; 30 ha in Friuli, where Pinot Grigio is grown; and 20 ha in the Soave area, jointly managed with Adami.
Vinificazione
Campagnola makes wine from its own grapes and also purchases fruit from more than 50 growers who work around 80 ha of vineyards. Grapes for the Giuseppe Campagnola range are specially selected by Luigi and Giuseppe Campagnola.
The winery uses modern equipment, and its laboratories monitor every stage of production through chemical and microbiological analysis. Its specialists focus on refining production methods and improving wine quality. Campagnola partners with other wineries: it jointly manages vineyards in Bardolino Classico with Tenute Francesco Righetti and in Soave with Adami, and produces the Roccolo del Lago wines together with Tenuta Agricola Francesco Righetti. These partnerships have recently allowed the winery to expand its range beyond Verona wines to include wines from other Italian regions.
Filosofia
The Campagnola family holds that its Caterina Zardini range offers "exceptional, terroir-driven wines made from the finest grapes" grown in Marano. Its specialists state that they pay particular attention to refining production methods and improving wine quality.
